First Home Finance, still widely known as FLISP, helps households who earn too much for a free government house but too little to easily get a home loan. The subsidy is paid once and lowers the amount you need to borrow.
Who qualifies
- South African citizen or permanent resident
- Household income between R3,501 and R22,000 a month
- Buying or building your first home
- Never received a government housing subsidy before
Who does not qualify
- People who already own a home
- Households earning above R22,000 a month
How to apply
- Get pre-approved for a home loan, or speak to your bank about First Home Finance.
- Apply through your provincial human settlements department or an accredited partner.
- Once approved, the subsidy is paid to reduce your loan.
